When you think about food what is the first thing that comes to mind? Maybe you feel stressed, overwhelmed or just want to throw your hands up in the air and say, “I give up!” I’ve looked at diet magazines over the years seeking the perfect solution and have tired many fad diets myself only to walk away disappointed. So what is the answer? I would offer first to stop trusting the diet and trust God! When you trust a diet you’re not trusting your God given instincts! We are turning to man made food, which is processed and killing Americans. Instead, try “God Food!”

What exactly is “God Food?” It’s getting back to the basics which is fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts and lean meat. When you think about fresh fruit or vegetables it feels good to your heart and soul. This is God food! Food that energizes the mind, body and spirit. If you desire to follow God’s lead on eating healthy, there is a simple first step. Just start incorporating fresh fruit into your day. Replace that energy bar that is processed with a natural source that will help with weight loss and give you the natural sugar you body craves. Our topic this week on Facebook is God Food. Join in on the conversation!

And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. 1 Corinthians 10:31

Do you view exercise as drudgery or something that creates a strong mind and body? I’m passionate about exercise and it being a part of my lifestyle. Is it because I love working out? The answer is no! It’s the feeling I receive after I exercise. Many people feel that you have to like or love exercising and it’s simply not true. You need to tap into your feelings during and after your workouts. For example; after a workout I feel lighter on my feet, stronger and I’m ready to tackle the day. I use this to motivate me throughout the day until the next workout. Some of you may be new to exercise and your body is saying, “I hate this!” I want you to be very patient with yourself. I once felt the same way but I stayed focused and persevered through each workout until I slowly started feeling better emotionally, physically and mentally. A shift occurred as I grew stronger. I began looking forward to my workouts. I encourage you to be patient, to schedule your workouts and to tap into the feelings and benefits of great health. Don’t procrastinate! Stand up and get moving. Your body will thank you!

A new year is a time of fresh resolutions. This is a time of not looking back to past failures but instead have a vision of oneself as a new creature in Christ. Yes, 2 Corinthians 5:17 reads, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things become new.” This verse speaks of old ways are gone by accepting Christ. I feel this verse applies to the New Year as a perfect opportunity to being a new creature in health, life and joy. Do you want a new beginning? I’m not going to advise you to eat right and exercise, even though this is a beautiful practice. I ask you to thirst for Christ and trust God to lead you to a healthy and joyful lifestyle. Often we have our hands on the steering wheel of life white knuckled. What would it feel like to loosen the grip and allow Christ to be the pilot and the instrument of your life? When you trust the Lord to take this powerful lead we are able to go into a deeper relationship with Him.

As we grow with Christ, our life and health manifest into a world that you no longer just dream of, but realize. Enjoy God’s promise and trust He wants you to loosen the grip. He yearns to be the Creator of a joyful life, Healer of food addictions, Comforter of self-sabotaging thoughts and an instrument that will guide you when nothing else will. Most people in life are white knuckled wondering why? It’s time to sit in the back seat and allow Christ to do His mighty work.

Healing scripture to memorize:

Mark 11:24 “Therefore I say to you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them and you will have them.”

Jeremiah 30:17 “I will restore health unto you, and I will heal you of your wounds.”

Jeremiah 17:14 “Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed, save me, and I shall be saved, for thou art my praise.”

I personally love this time of year! We have many family traditions that we enjoy together and hopefully, will pass them down to our children. One aspect of Christmas that I find challenging is the holiday parties. I thought I would share a few ideas to assist in keeping our holiday food splurge in check.

Before attending a party plan on eating a healthy snack before you leave. This will help you feel in control and not overeat. An important key is portion control during this time of year.

Schedule exercise the best you can.

I’m a big believer in wearing something a little snug around the waist during the day too! This will be a reminder not to overeat. If you’re wearing elastic pants at home or work you will notice you eat more during the day.

When enjoying an evening out, especially if it’s a buffet, scan the buffet first. Don’t just jump in feet first. Think through your choices and how you will feel if you don’t overeat.

For those of you that like coffee or tea after dinner this is great way to not be tempted by those high calorie desserts. If desserts tempt you, play a game with yourself and eat only half the dessert. You will walk away not feeling guilty and enjoying a small tasty treat.

If you’re unsure of the menu, offer to bring a healthy side dish that you enjoy. Many times I will bring a festive and colorful veggie tray so I know there will be something I can enjoy throughout the day and feel good about my choices.

Most importantly, enjoy the holidays! The more you stress about food and overeating the more you will. Be kind to yourself and offer yourself grace.

Wishing you Inner Thinner Peace!

P.S. Please share with a friend!

I love coaching women that will finally develop a healthy relationship with food. Often women stress over how much to eat, how often to eat and simply just feel overwhelmed. I recently ran into a woman at an outing and asked her if she would like to enjoy some healthy food that was sitting out on a buffet table. She immediately said with very little excitement, “No I’m on a diet.” It saddened me that she was putting such pressure on herself and couldn’t see food as healthy but rather as being under restrictions.

Ladies, if you’re walking around worried about your food intake then you haven’t created a healthy relationship with food yet. Our food intake should be treated like a friend, with respect and understanding. Often we struggle with food because we use it as an escape.

When we make poor food choices it’s normally because we are bolting from what is in front of us such as pressure from work, family, poor inner dialogue, stress and the list is endless. When we address the issue we become bold, strong and confident and able to stop viewing food as an escape. The emphasis is now on the situation, not the food, and we stand confidently confronting the problem at hand. How does this help with our relationship with food? We are no longer running to food for support or comfort, rather we are taking responsibility in the area that needs to be addressed. Food will be there when you’re physically hungry not emotional hungry. Food for thought!

Have you ever felt like you will never lose the weight? I spent many, many years stuck with that thought playing over and over again in my mind. My weight was draining my zest for life and the thought of losing it was overwhelming. It affected my marriage, self-esteem, decision-making and confidence. I would find myself bingeing on ice cream or nutty bars not even realizing what I was doing. We call it mindless eating, emotional eating, or just leaving ourselves. I like to use the term “leaving oneself” meaning when you run to food to fill the void. I didn’t want to tackle the issues of life, instead preferring to hide. So what did this create? Stagnation! This is when you’re in a whirlpool of water and the water keeps going around and around and you feel trapped in the current, but the whole time you have the power to step onto dry land and slowly take your life back. I did, finally realizing it was time to put one foot on the ground and slowly pull myself out the pool of stagnation.

What do I love about my journey? It has brought me to a level of living that I never dreamed of. Ladies if you think it’s all about the food, I’m here to tell you it’s NOT. My success has come from going inward and discovering who I am. Often we think its ego or pride to look at our own life; it’s actually just the opposite. If you feel its ego or pride to live a healthy wonderful life, you have convinced yourself you don’t deserve to live life to the fullest. I feel it’s almost easier to just diet and incorporate exercise, but what is missing being able to look at you in the mirror and saying, “I respect, value and appreciate the person I was created to be.” When we tap into this life changing mindset, this is when the magic happens. You feel deserving to fuel your body in a healthy way and to stand confident in the middle of your life.

Jump off the dieting roller coaster and realize it all starts within!

Quickly, they realize it’s not all about the food. What is the missing piece to the puzzle of weight loss? To be honest, many of us understand what healthy eating really looks like. Unfortunately, the missing puzzle piece is completely disregarded, neglected, ignored, and passed over by most women. The missing piece…women yearn and crave to love the person they were created to be. Inner Thinner Peace Coaching (ITPC) has been blessed to coach women from the Weight Watchers program. The two fit beautifully together. A Weight Watchers’ client will enter into coaching with a wall of knowledge. Portion control, healthy food choices and structure are on the forefront of their minds. Coaching can help a client decipher the “why” they are not sticking with the program. Most of our clients plain hate their bodies. Together, we break those barriers so weight loss is attainable. When a woman hates her body, this only creates stress and strain on her body and mind. It’s very common for a woman to cling to old beliefs that she has completely internalized. These thoughts form feelings and emotions that aren’t even true. Coaching allows you to shape new powerful beliefs that are genuine. They are aligned with you to allow for success in health and life.

Often, we see women that lose weight time and time again with Weight Watchers. What needs to change? Please read my story below. It wasn’t just the food. It was an inward journey that has brought peace, hope, joy, life, permanent weight loss and happiness into my life!

Do you think when I decided to take my life and body back my circumstances changed? The answer is NO. I was still overweight and unhappy with me. What changed? I did! I decided to no longer blame my husband, career, co-workers, life, kids, or my upbringing. I was stuck in ego and pride and it was time to break free from the mentality of “I’ll never be skinny, only if I had more time.” This only created emotions and thoughts that made me run toward FOOD and cover up all my problems. Friends, it wasn’t the food that caused me to be fat and depressed. I was bolting from my own life and using food to smother issues that kept me in bondage. I finally trusted who I was created to be. I had been running from myself for a long time. When I decided to look in the mirror and stop using food to numb my life, everything changed. When this transformation occurs you will reap the rewards of a healthy relationship with food, feel great in your skin, enjoy an inward peace and confidence that YOU didn’t even realize existed!

I want you to notice my journey didn’t revolve around food. It was discovering who I was and how to finally enjoy a healthy relationship with food. If your thoughts are constantly on what to eat, when to eat, how much to eat you’re missing the most important aspect of the journey. It’s not the food! It’s uncovering, trusting and believing in YOU!

I’ll be happy when I have a better job.

I’ll be happy when I have a baby (or another baby).

I’ll be happy when the kids are in school.

I’ll be happy when I get more recognition or appreciation.

I’ll be happy when I can retire.

And the ever so popular: I’ll be happy when I lose 5 (10, 15, 100) pounds.

Happiness in the moment is true happiness.

Below you will find ways to be happy in the moment!

Happiness is something that doesn’t always come easy. If you struggle in this area know it’s very common. This is when we have to take a leap of faith and look inward. Notice something good in you and how it overflows throughout your day.

Often we offer happiness to others and don’t even realize it. It may be your smile, touch, kind words or body language. Realize you offer happiness to others in your own unique way!

If there is something that makes you happy do more of it!

Shake off work before you walk in the door. Notice your loved one and children in a special way tonight!

Our posture speaks volumes. Take time to hold your head high and pull those shoulders back. This is telling the world, “I’m confident, happy and ready to be my best.” Give it a try today! I promise you will feel more confident.

Before going to bed focus on the good of the day. It may be a smile you received, a kind word, help at work that was unexpected. Find the blessing even in the simple moments of life.

Think of one person in your life that you can call and say, “I have been thinking about you.”

Show kindness today! Offer an uplifting word, a smile, a note of appreciation or a listening ear even if you feel you’re too busy! This will be contagious. Give it a shot today, step out of your comfort zone!
